Welcome to the page of the DiCoS Research Group
(Discourse, Communication & Society).
University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Our research group is part of the Departamento de Filología Moderna, Traducción e Interpretación (DFMTI). We focus on exploring language both as a means of communication and as a structured system. Our areas of expertise include corpus linguistics, applied linguistics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, and editing. We approach texts from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives, with English, French, and Spanish serving as the primary languages of our research.
Our work extends to manuscript studies and editorial practices, reflecting a commitment to preserving and analyzing texts. In addition, we place great emphasis on education, actively engaging in the study and improvement of teaching methodologies. Members of our group contribute to various PhD, Master’s, and Expert Programmes.
As part of our involvement in DOCTESO, an interuniversity doctoral programme, DiCoS members participate in PhD-level teaching and provide supervision and guidance in language-related research. This encompasses both empirical and theoretical studies in linguistics, literature, and translation.
At its core, our research embraces the interplay of language as both process and structure, fostering a deeper understanding of its complexities across disciplines.
Visit MINTEXTIM: Interpersonal Devices in Women's Instructional Writing
We warmly invite you to explore the webpage of our project, Interpersonal Devices in Specialized Household and Public Instructional Texts Written by Women in Modern English (MINTEXTIM). This initiative examines how women writers in the Modern English period used language to instruct, guide, and engage with their audiences in household and public contexts.
Learn more about our research, approaches, and the insights we’ve uncovered into the linguistic strategies that shaped these instructional texts. ⇒
